Memoe vs Spokenly

Jude Mercer, SEO and Content, Memoe — 30 October 2026

Memoe is an agent you talk to, and it talks back. It lives in your Mac's notch instead of in a chat window, so you can talk to it from whatever app you're in. It runs on the AI you already pay for — your Claude subscription through Claude Code, or your ChatGPT plan — so there's no new model to buy. Underneath, it runs Hermes Agent, the open-source agent harness from Nous Research, and it keeps a memory of you in plain files on your Mac that you can read, edit and delete.

Hold one key from any app, say what you need, and Moe answers out loud and goes and does it. It connects to around 1,400 services, and it has its own browser, signed in as you. You can message Moe over Telegram, WhatsApp, Slack, Discord, email, Signal and LINE. Before Moe sends anything to another person it shows you exactly what will go out and waits for your click. About 2 to 5 seconds before it speaks.

What Spokenly is

Spokenly is dictation: by its own FAQ, “Spokenly is an AI-powered dictation app for Mac, Windows, Linux, and iPhone. Press a shortcut, speak, and your words appear at the cursor in any application.” It runs local Whisper and Parakeet models on Apple Silicon for free, offline transcription, and its home page describes an “Agent Mode” that “lets you control your Mac with voice commands hands-free,” plus a built-in MCP server that, by its own FAQ, lets “AI coding agents like Claude Code receive voice input directly.” Its own FAQ on privacy reads: “With local models, your voice never leaves your Mac. For cloud models, audio is processed and immediately deleted, never stored.” Its pricing page lists a free tier (“$0 forever… Unlimited use… Works completely offline… Bring your own API keys”), a one-time “Local+” purchase at $29, and a Pro subscription at $12 a month billed yearly ($144 a year) or $15 month-to-month, “cancel anytime · 14-day refund.” Everything in this paragraph and in the right-hand column below comes from spokenly.app — its own home page, pricing section and FAQ — read 30 October 2026.

 MemoeSpokenly
What it is An agent you talk to from any app, that answers out loud and does the work. Dictation: speech transcribed and typed into whatever app you're using, by its own FAQ (“Press a shortcut, speak, and your words appear at the cursor in any application.”).
What comes back A spoken answer, and the task carried out — mail and calendar read, a meeting noted, a Mac app driven for you. Typed text, with an “AI Instructions” step that, by its own site, “fix[es] grammar, strip[s] filler words, and format[s] text to match the app you are dictating into,” plus an “Agent Mode” for voice-driven Mac automation, by its own FAQ.
What it remembers A memory of you, kept in plain files on your disk you can read, edit and delete. A searchable history of past dictations you can replay or export, by its own description of the product; its site does not describe anything like a memory of you that carries between sessions.
Where your speech is processed “Speech recognition runs on your Mac using local models, and audio is not stored after it is transcribed. On the free tier your voice does not leave your Mac.” “With local models, your voice never leaves your Mac. For cloud models, audio is processed and immediately deleted, never stored,” by its own FAQ.
The thinking Your own Claude or ChatGPT plan, an API key, or a model on your Mac, driving Hermes Agent. Not resold, not marked up. Local Whisper and Parakeet models run free by default; for cloud models, its own FAQ says you can “connect your own API keys from OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude), Google, Deepgram, Groq, and other providers… with no Spokenly subscription required,” or subscribe to its managed Pro tier instead.
What it runs on An Apple silicon Mac, macOS 15 or later. macOS, Windows, Linux and iOS, by its own site; local transcription models need an Apple silicon Mac, by its own FAQ.
Price Free on the Mac. Away, from $20 a month, is a cloud computer of your own that keeps going when the Mac is shut; Away+ is $50 a month. Free forever for local models, by its own pricing page; Local+ is a one-time $29 purchase; Pro is $12 a month billed yearly ($144 a year) or $15 month-to-month, each by its own pricing page.

Trying Memoe

Memoe is a free Mac app, and everything that runs on your Mac is free. It needs an Apple silicon Mac on macOS 15 or later. It is signed and notarized by Apple and it updates itself. It is beta, built by one person, so expect a few rough edges.
