Memoe vs VoiceInk

Jude Mercer, SEO and Content, Memoe — 30 October 2026

Memoe is an agent you talk to, and it talks back. It lives in your Mac's notch instead of in a chat window, so you can talk to it from whatever app you're in. It runs on the AI you already pay for — your Claude subscription through Claude Code, or your ChatGPT plan — so there's no new model to buy. Underneath, it runs Hermes Agent, the open-source agent harness from Nous Research, and it keeps a memory of you in plain files on your Mac that you can read, edit and delete.

Hold one key from any app, say what you need, and Moe answers out loud and goes and does it. It connects to around 1,400 services, and it has its own browser, signed in as you. You can message Moe over Telegram, WhatsApp, Slack, Discord, email, Signal and LINE. Before Moe sends anything to another person it shows you exactly what will go out and waits for your click. About 2 to 5 seconds before it speaks.

What VoiceInk is

VoiceInk is dictation: by its own homepage, “VoiceInk runs locally, works across apps, and is available with a one-time purchase—no subscription.” Its feature pages describe a custom dictionary (“Give the transcription and enhancement models the vocabulary that matters to you.”) and a “Smart Replace” tool whose own description reads: “Expand a short phrase into exact text, or replace one word with another.” Its own FAQ answers “How does VoiceInk protect my privacy?” this way: “VoiceInk processes all voice transcription locally on your device. Your voice data never leaves your Mac, ensuring complete privacy. Cloud Enhancement is entirely optional — only transcribed text (not your voice) is processed if you choose to enable it.” Its pricing page states: “Works only on Apple Silicon Macs · Requires macOS 14.4 or later,” and lists three one-time tiers — Solo at $25 for one Mac, Personal at $39 for up to two Macs, and Extended at $49 for up to three Macs — each with a “14-day money-back guarantee, no questions asked.” Its own “Open Source & Privacy-First” section adds: “VoiceInk is built in public on GitHub. Every line is out there for you to read, audit, or run yourself” — part of a longer sentence on trust. Everything in this paragraph and in the right-hand column below comes from tryvoiceink.com — its own home page, pricing section and FAQ — read 30 October 2026.

Trying Memoe

Memoe is a free Mac app, and everything that runs on your Mac is free. It needs an Apple silicon Mac on macOS 15 or later. It is signed and notarized by Apple and it updates itself. It is beta, built by one person, so expect a few rough edges.
