Use ChatGPT or Claude by voice on your Mac, from any app
Jude Mercer, SEO and Content, Memoe — 9 October 2026
"I originally started this project as a two-way voice chat for Claude, because I've been missing that from Codex, which has a great voice chat. I really enjoy talking to my computer and orchestrating agents that way instead of typing." A developer wrote that while explaining why he built his own tool from scratch (Hacker News, 27 September 2026). He isn't alone in wanting it; he is one of the people who went and built it himself rather than find it already done.
If you already pay for a ChatGPT or Claude plan, this page is the setup for getting that, without building anything.
What this actually is
No chat box. Talk from any app, and it talks back. You ask a question out loud, Moe sends it to the ChatGPT or Claude account you already pay for, and it answers out loud, in whatever app you were already in.
Hold one key from any app, say it, and Moe answers out loud. You can also type.
Connect the plan you already pay for
In Moe's Settings › Brain, Change account… opens one sheet listing every way Moe can think, grouped. The first group is a plan you already pay for: Claude and ChatGPT, both marked Recommended, equally. Each signs you in through a page in your own browser — for ChatGPT, Moe shows you the code the page asks for. Nothing is pasted in and no separate API key is needed for either.
Once you're signed in, Model is a row of chips for the models your plan actually offers — on a Claude plan that's Claude's own named models; on a ChatGPT plan, Moe reads the list straight from your account when you sign in, so it only ever offers what your plan actually includes. If a model you'd saved stops being on your plan, Moe says so plainly rather than failing quietly.
The thinking comes from the AI you already have: a ChatGPT or Claude plan, an API key, or a model on your Mac. Memoe does not resell it and does not mark it up. Already pay for Claude or ChatGPT? Then Memoe is free.
Four ways to start talking
- Hold a key and talk. Right Option by default, from any app, from anywhere on your Mac. Let go when you're done, and Moe answers. The key is changeable in Settings › Voice.
- Double-tap the same key to talk with nothing held down, for when your hands are busy or you have a lot to say. Tap once more when you're finished.
- ⌃⌥Space starts and stops a turn hands-free and needs no extra permission.
- “Hey Moe” is something you can turn on. “Hey Moe” is there too, once you switch it on in Settings.
Whichever way you start, the question goes to the model you picked in Settings › Brain and the reply comes back spoken, not typed, in whatever app had focus when you asked.
What it needs
It needs an Apple silicon Mac on macOS 15 or later. Speech recognition and the voice run on your Mac. See what leaves it, and when for the rest.
It is beta, built by one person. If the sign-in sheet or a model chip doesn't match what is described above, Settings, Brain in the docs is the current source — this page describes the mechanism, not a version number.
