No new subscription for a Mac voice assistant
Jude Mercer, SEO and Content, Memoe — 14 October 2026
If you already pay for a ChatGPT or Claude plan, Memoe doesn't ask you to pay for a second one underneath it. The free tier of Memoe runs the assistant, its voice, meetings, calendar, mail and memory on your own Mac at no cost — the only thing you're paying for is the AI account you already have, and that's between you and them, not an extra line Memoe adds on top.
"I was not happy paying $12 per month to Dictation application and I was enjoying playing with open source model. So I tried making my own dictation which has same speed and accuracy but run totally on device. I am using parakeet for STT and qwen 2.5 for Cleanup. It runs perfectly fine on my M1 Macbook Pro which has 8GB of RAM."
That's the math a lot of people end up doing by hand: pay a Mac app its own monthly fee for the AI that powers it, or go find a way around it. Memoe's answer isn't a workaround — it's built to never charge you for that AI in the first place.
Bring the AI you already have
At every price Memoe sells, the thinking underneath it is yours, not Memoe's:
- A Claude or ChatGPT plan you already pay for. Connect the account and that's the AI Memoe talks to.
- An API key. Bring your own and pay that provider directly, at their rate.
- A model on your own Mac. Nothing leaves your machine and nothing is billed per use at all.
Memoe does not resell that access and does not mark it up. Whichever of the three you pick, the account is yours, and the bill — if there is one — comes from the provider you chose, not from Memoe.
What actually costs money, stated plainly
Memoe's own free tier — the assistant, its voice and ears, meetings written up on your Mac, calendar, mail, messages, notes, reminders, and around 1,400 connected services — is free and stays free, for as long as your Mac is awake to run it. The only thing you're ever paying for on that tier is the AI account you bring.
Memoe also sells Away ($20/month) and Away+ ($50/month), which move Moe onto a cloud machine that stays awake when your Mac is shut, with a faster voice and more calls to your connected services. That's a Memoe product fee for a Memoe product — a computer running on your behalf — not a markup on the AI itself. At every one of those tiers, the AI underneath is still yours: no resale, no markup, same as the free tier.
Already pay for Claude or ChatGPT?
Then Memoe is free — no second subscription to add a voice assistant on top of the AI you're already paying for. (Away and Away+ are separate, optional upgrades for a cloud machine, not a markup on the AI; see above.) See the full pricing breakdown, or read how the connection to Claude or ChatGPT actually works.
