How to send a WhatsApp message with your voice on a Mac

Jude Mercer, SEO and Content, Memoe — 15 October 2026

Hold the key, say who it's for and what to say — "tell Dad I'm running fifteen minutes late, on WhatsApp" — and let go. That's the whole voice side of it. What happens next is the part most voice tools skip: before anything reaches WhatsApp, a sheet opens on your Mac with the service, who it's going to, and the whole message, and nothing goes out until you say so.

The sheet that opens before anything sends

Moe never sends a WhatsApp or Telegram message on its own. When it's about to, a sheet opens first: which service it's going out on, who it's going to, and the whole message. Send sends it. Cancel, or Esc, does not — and Moe is told you said no, rather than trying again. The line at the top reads Nothing has been sent yet for as long as the sheet is up, and ⌘↵ is Send, with plain Return deliberately bound to nothing, so a stray keystroke can't send it for you.

The message on the sheet is a field, not a label. Click into it, fix a word Moe got wrong, cut a sentence, add the thing it forgot, then click Send — what goes to WhatsApp is what you left in the box, not what Moe first wrote.

How it knows who you mean

If you named someone Moe had to look up, the sheet says so in amber: Moe chose this person — found in your WhatsApp chats, or wherever it found them. Only a number you gave, or a lookup that returned one for that person, counts as you naming a recipient — a name that only shows up in someone else's message, in a group chat for instance, never names anybody for you on its own.

If you're away from your Mac when it's ready

Away from the keyboard, the sheet doesn't sit on an empty screen. The send waits on the island instead, and if an hour passes with no answer, it's treated the same as a cancel — Moe is told nothing was sent, not that something broke. Come back after that and there's no sheet to approve, just one note on the island: That WhatsApp send to "Dad" expired before you answered — nothing was sent. If you saw the sheet appear, or you were at the Mac the whole time, there's no note, because you already know what happened.

A scheduled job or a background helper asking Moe to send a WhatsApp or Telegram message gets the same sheet if you're at the Mac — marked Asked by a scheduled job, not by anything you just said, so it's never mistaken for part of what you're doing right then. If you've stepped away, it waits on the island and asks once, not once per retry; a held send that's still unanswered a day later is taken down and marked expired, and it can no longer be sent from there.

Which chats this covers

WhatsApp and Telegram, and any other chat app Moe is connected to, under Connections. This is about Moe composing and sending a message for you, as an action you approve each time — not about dictation, voice typing straight into WhatsApp's own compose box, or Moe reading your message back to you once it's gone. The sheet closing, or the island note, is the only confirmation; nothing is spoken.

What it needs

Hold one key from any app, say it, and Moe answers — the same key you'd use to ask it anything else; see talking to Moe from any app for the four ways to start. WhatsApp itself is linked once, under Connections, to the number your Mac sends as; after that, every send still gets its own sheet, every time. Full detail on the sheet's rules is in the docs, Before anything goes out — this page describes the mechanism, not a version number.
